Make 2018 Bris-tastic

Get Active

Brisbane City Council run an Active Parks and a Recreation Program for people of all ages at over 50 parks across Brisbane. Why not get fit and healthy and meet new people at their wide range of free or low cost activities. Activities include yoga, zumba, boxing, aqua classes, dancing and skateboarding to name a few. Visit here for further details and timetable information. Another way to get active in Brisbane is take a walk, run or bike ride along one of the many bike/pedestrian paths around Brisbane and thru the city.

Visit an art gallery

GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) and the Queensland Art Gallery (together known as QAGOMA) hold a combined collection of more than 16,000 pieces of historical, modern and contemporary art at their South Bank Cultural Centre location. With many free exhibitions on display there is art to suit everyone, even the little ones.  See what's on at QAGOMA here. With the major Brisbane galleries located at South Bank there are also a number of smaller boutique galleries dotted across Brisbane, visit here to see which gallery is located close to you.

Take a ride

Rediscover Brisbane by ferry. Take a free ride on the Brisbane City Council CityHopper which runs every 30 minutes from 6.00am to midnight seven days a week with multiple stops between Sydney Street, New Farm and North Quay.  You can find out more information here.  If pedal power is more your thing then why not hire a CityCycle from the Brisbane City Council. The CityCycle scheme conveniently links bus, train and ferry services and is a healthy, active and environmentally friendly way to get around the inner city and nearby suburbs. There are over 2000 bikes located at 15 cycle stations between the University of Queensland and Newstead. Further CityCycle information is located here.

Shop Local

Head to your local market to buy fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, eggs, bread and even flowers. By shopping at local produce markets you are directly supporting the farmer or grower and cutting out the supermarket giants and the main benefit will be that the produce will taste fabulously fresh. Popular markets in Brisbane to visit include Jan Powers Farmer's Markets, Brisbane MarketPlace Saturday Fresh Market and Eagle Farm Markets.
